Visually represent a chosen colour using only black and white. This may be a collection of colours, or just one. Present through any form that best represents your idea.
The colour blue can be viewed as both a colour and an emotion (when people are “feeling blue”). Through the use of photography, I will show it as both a colour and also a feeling.
Creating The Big Box of Blue, which holds The Little Book of Feelings and The Little Book of Colour, physically represent the colour blue. Using the psychological analysis of the colour, the feelings book presents the darker side of student life and the emotions felt. Each subject in The Little Book of Feelings picked a PANTONE® colour that corresponded to their emotion, using the emotional scale of blue to guide them. As the chosen colour gets darker, the size of the PANTONE® card gets bigger within the photographs. This is to reflect how depression and ‘feeling blue’ is an emotion that consumes the person.
The Little Book of Colour takes the names of paint samples from Dulux and © The Little Green Paint Co. Ltd. and recreates them as a visual image instead of a block colour. Taking the concept of paint swatches, this book shows colour without using it – although the original paint swatch is shown within the French fold of each page.
